Summer Trends in Skin Care & Cosmetics
Cosmetics expert offers tips and advice for getting fresh skin for summer
The arrival of summer brings more hours of sunlight and the glow of the new season. Melanie Forrest, Missouri State Founder with SeneGence International® SenseCosmetics, has some special skin tips to provide you with radiant, fresh skin and cosmetic tips for summer.
"Summer is definitely the season to simplify the steps needed to look and feel beautiful," says Forrest. "Glowing, gorgeous skin does not need numerous bottles and steps to look it’s best."
Start with a skin care program with simple steps and sun protection. Look for a 3-in-1 cleanser you can use in the shower. Cleanse, exfoliate, tone all in one step. Apply a daytime moisturizer and/or foundation that blocks the sun naturally and walk out the door. “ If you need several bottles to get the results you seek, you are buying too much marketing and not great skin care,” says Forrest. Skin care should be simple and less than 2 steps in the morning or night.
Here are some summer skin care and color cosmetic tips for obtaining a healthy glow this season.
Sun block without the Chemicals
The skin on your face is different from the skin on your body. Protect your face with a 2-in-1 foundation moisturizer that blocks the sun naturally without the chemical SPF ingredient.
"Wearing a foundation with natural botanicals that have been clinically tested to block the sun without the SPF is like wearing a coat over your skin," says Forrest. “It blocks the sun without the chemicals leaving your face breakout free and without the redness that the chemical SPF can leave behind.”

Look for long-lasting cream eye shadows, liquid eye liners and waterproof mascaras to maintain you summer look all day. Cream shadows are easier to custom blend and can create hundreds of shades verses the conventional powder shadows that will not last all day, are not waterproof and limit your choices. When choosing a waterproof mascara, look for one with a conditioner to be applied before the color to avoid breakage of your lashes.
Sheer or frosted shades of lip color are hot for summer topped off with a shea butter moisturizer to block the sun naturally. Sheer pinks, corals and lavender lip colors are great with a sunkissed tan. Forrest suggests the new summer LipSense long-lasting lip colors in Malted, Sugar Plum or Rose Ice. Long-lasting lip colors should not contain wax if you want moisturized skin this summer. “There is nothing moisturizing about a long-lasting lipstick. If the ingredients on the box list any form of wax, walk away,” says Forrest. Look for a moisturizer with a larger density to last longer. The thinner the moisturizer, the more you will be applying it throughout the day.
